Springtime in Cascais

Cascais! A wonderful little seaside town outside of Lisbon that is easily one of the quaintest place I have ever been to. When pronouncing the word “Cascais” you have to say it with a sophisticated, refined air…ok you have to sound like a snob. It’s ok. I get it. This place is like the Bloomfield Hills of Portugal.

Having said that, it is quite a nice place to raise some kids from what I can gather. The air is clean and unsullied by the constant traffic in Lisbon. The beach is less than a 10 minute walk from the downtown and you have several beaches to choose from. Hop in your car (or bike) and minutes later you are at Guincho beach.

On this trip Mia got to come and see Cascais. She was very happy. “Cascais! My Favorite Thing!”

It’s quite obvious that there is a lot of money in Cascais. Everything is very well maintained and it has a restored and updated feel to it, while maintaining the style of the period. It’s Lisbon on a smaller scale and if they spent their money on infrastructure instead of on football players’ salaries. I’m probably gonna take some heat for that comment by some Benfica fans, but hey, professional sports suck the capital and intellectual lifeblood out of society…but that’s another rant altogether.

Most Fragrant Tree Ever in Cascais

Most Fragrant Tree Ever in Cascais

Life is all about stopping to smell the flowers. If you don’t “aproveitar” the moment when you have it, then what’s the point? We stopped at this tree for several minutes and did nothing but shove our faces in the fragrant flower petals and inhale deeply. I want to know what kind of tree this…any botanists reading this blog?!

Beach in Cascais!

Well I will leave you with a shot of the beach in Cascais. I’m off back to Lisbon and hopping on the CP train back to Estrella. What are your thoughts on Cascais? Thanks for reading and stay adventurous!

  1. Nice to know you shoved your face in the fragrant flower petals to take in the smell :D Good use of the word “aproveitar” as well. Well done!
Hey, footballers’ wages don’t come from taxpayers money. Thank God for that!
Yes, Cascais is where the wealthy people live. I live right in between Cascais and Lisbon city centre, in Oeiras. If you’re ever in Carcavelos…

Very nice picture of Mia and Stefi, by the way :)

  3. You have got to be shitting me! I swear I have a pic of a buggy like that from 1990! My mom grew up about four stops down the train in Oeiras and they all used to hang out in Cascais. Thanks so much for showing me this today!!
