Lisbon Street Art and Street Artists Part 1

Why Hello There.

Why Hello There.

Why hello there! Greetings from Lisboa, city of light, city of…street art? The area near the Castelo São Jorge has a lot of street art. A lot of it is tagging but sometimes you can come across a nice mural with some artistic merit. My favorite is definitely the random squirrel like creature shown above. The placement and the facial/hands expression is just perfect.

The Girl With The Tribal Piercings

Near Castelo. I like this one because it kinda reminds me of one of my friends…if she got a bunch of tribal piercings in her face that is.

Giant Hanging Turd

Giant Hanging Turd

The first time I saw this was walking back towards the castle. I walked right past it the first time because I had to duck and step through the small door to the left in the photo and I was concentrating on not tripping and looking to my right or something. Coming back I noticed it and I had to chuckle a bit. Behold, a giant turd.

There’s something quite disturbing about this turd. The texture, the color, the fact that it’s suspended in midair…

In Portuguese; “Este turd não consegue”.

How Does Dude Do That?

How Does Dude Do That?

This guy is pretty well known in Baixa/Chiado. Apparently he holds the world record for what he does. And I guess what he does is somehow suspend himself giant turd like in mid air. I have looked at this guy from all angles and I still cannot figure out how he does it. Maybe he has some sort of rigid support mechanism under his left sleeve running from the cane that is also connected to his left leg under his clothes. That’s my best guess.

Fofinho - In Memoriam

Fofinho Keit - In Memoriam

I found this one wandering around Alfama. I guess this is less street art and more someone’s tribute to their dog. Keit must have been cute in real life. Fofinho!

St. Antonio - Patron Saint of Lisboa

St. Antonio - Patron Saint of Lisboa

This I also found in Alfama. The neighborhood is known for one of the best parties and pageants for St. Antonio holiday in Lisbon. Street art back-in-the-day!

Stay tuned next week for part 2 of Lisbon Street Art and Street Artists!
